Wie Apple die Text-Eingabe auf iOS verbessern könnte (Video)
Derzeit macht im Web eine Initiative die Runde, die es sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, die Texteingabe unter iOS zu verbessern. Die Initiative besteht aus einem Video und einem Aufruf zum Einreichen eines Feature-Requests bei Apple. Das Video zeigt einen Umstand, der die Texteingabe auf dem iPad und iPhone verlangsamt: das selektieren von Wörtern und Text-Passagen sowie das verschieben des Cursors innerhalb von geschriebenem Text. Gezeigt wird aber nicht nur diese ‘Problemzone’ von Apples mobilem Betriebssystem, sondern auch wie man diesen Problemen durch Multitouch-Gesten entgegen halten könnte: Durch das Wischen von einem Finger über die Tastatur verschiebt man den Cursor Zeichen für Zeichen nach Links oder Rechts, mit dem Einsatz zweier Finger verschiebt man den Cursor Wort für Wort (also schneller) nach Links oder Rechts und hält man gleichzeitig die Shift-Taste gedrückt, wird der entsprechende Text gleich selektiert.
Initiant «danielchasehooper» hatte nicht nur die Idee für diese Lösung und stellte das Video online, sondern gibt auch gleich eine Anleitung, wie man seine Idee mittels eines Feature-Requests bei Apple bekannt machen kann — um diese Vereinfachung der Texteingabe unter iOS vielleicht sogar bald in iOS integriert sehen zu können:
- Go to bugreport.apple.com, sign in and click «New Problem»
- Set the title to «Editing Text on iPad (duplicate of rdar://11365152)»
- Set the product to «iPad», version number to «N/A», classification to «Feature (New)» and is it reproducible to «not applicable».
- Copy the following letter and paste it in the Problem Details section then click submit:

Tapping directly on text to move the cursor works well for small portions of text, but we don’t just write short portions of text anymore! When performing lots of edits in larger documents the direct interaction metaphor falls apart for cursor control. Even short portions of text can be painful to edit when you need to move the cursor to a precise location. Would you ever want to write a document on your computer without using the arrow keys? This is the reality iPad users face because they do not have the equivalent of arrow keys.
There is a better way. Take advantage of gestures by making a drag over the keyboard UI move the cursor. Move the cursor in word increments when dragging with two fingers. And finally, let the user select text while dragging when they hold down shift.
